Cherry 2000 was the first movie directed by Steve de Jarnatt, who went on to make the stunning Miracle Mile before vanishing into obscurity, and it concerns a guy looking for a replacement female robot in a post-nuclear wasteland.
It has a few of the strengths of the later movie (colourful images and lots of neon, unpredictable plot and odd sense of humour), and the supporting cast includes Tim Thomerson and Ben Johnson in great form, but the main actors (David Andrews and Pamela Gidley) are just not up to it. Melanie Griffiths is pretty good as a female bounty hunter but it’s hard to care too much.
