Halloween

Much more fun are a couple of re-releases of older material from John Carpenter. Despite Anchor Bay releasing a 2-disc version of Halloween only a couple of years ago, they’re back with a Halloween :25th Anniversary Edition, in both R1 and R2. (It’s a slightly depressing DVD title for me, as I remember sneaking in under-age to the original UK cinema release, on a double-bill with Jorge Grau’s The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue. Ah, nostalgia…)

Again this contains an extraordinarily good transfer and sound mix, but they’ve dropped the TV edit and replaced it with a recent 90-minute documentary, revisiting the locations and the cast and crew. They’ve also included the commentary track as featured on the laser disc and recorded about 10 years ago.

Carpenter is a genial and intelligent host as always, and has now said he won’t talk about this movie any more, so you can safely get this release.
