Jack Frost

Jack Frost is the 1997 movie from Michael Cooney, who is the son of British farce writer Ray Cooney, and who achieved some respectability years later as the writer of the hit Identity. This one’s about, er, a killer snowman wreaking havoc in a small town.

There’s some nonsense about a truck shipping DNA crashing, and spilling over a serial killer who happens to be passing in the snow, and then you can guess the rest. The highlights are the chase scenes involving the title character, who manages to corner several victims despite being restricted to a legless shuffle.

I’d like to complain about the misleading DVD cover art, which depicts a much more ferocious snowman, quite unlike the tubby movie snowman which looks like a reject from a shopping mall display. I can see you’ll be ordering this right away, so make sure you don’t mistakenly end up with the sentimental Michael Keaton movie of the same name, which actually has a much more expensive and convincing snowman as its hero.
