Spiderman 2

I missed Spiderman 2 at the cinema but here it is on yet another 2-disc special edition. By the time I saw it I’d seen enough clips that the whole product held very few surprises, which is the problem with this type of franchise.

Sam Raimi injects a lot of kinetic style as usual, but you know deep down which characters are safe and which ones aren’t, and the exhilarating flying sequences have lost their novelty. Alfred Molina continues to be that guy who everyone knows but no-one can name, and the effects are brilliant enough to never look too much like effects, but the plot paints itself, and the expected third movie, into a corner in a slightly depressing way.

Exactly what you’d expect it to be (including another Bruce Campbell cameo), and if you like this sort of thing, you’ll like this sort of thing.

Mild Peril Rating: ★★★☆☆
