The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

After many years of waiting (going back to A-levels in my case), we finally get a big-screen version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Inevitably after all that time, and with the highlights from so many other adaptations in our minds, and with the less inspired later books from Adams, it comes across as a bit flat and unadventurous in parts. Martin Freeman and Sam Rockwell are perfectly cast, but some of the other parts don’t feel right despite the best efforts of the actors.

However there are still many amusing moments and it deserves to be seen by anyone with even a passing interest in the genre. The DVD contains the usual guff like commentaries and EPK-style documentaries, but also has a very amusing ‘Marvin’s Hangman’ set-top game.

Mild Peril Rating: ★★½☆☆
