Troy

Back to the blockbusters: Troy was another I missed in the cinema and caught up with on its recent DVD release.

The big CGI battles are very impressive without ever being as visceral as say Gladiator, although the scenes of thousands of ships setting out to sea look more like a video game than a movie.

Like all Wolfgang Petersen’s movies, this is workmanlike and solidly entertaining without being inspired. After a while the main interest is watching Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom floundering like pantomime actors compared with Brian Cox and Eric Bana. And the Trojans fall for that horse trick again.

Mild Peril Rating: ★★½☆☆
